Apple patents Concert Ticket + system for iPhone
Apple has secured a patent for a Near Field Communications-based digital concert and event ticketing service optimized for iPhone and iPod touch devices. Patently Apple reports the service, branded Concert Ticket +, promises to eliminate paper ticketing while enhancing the concertgoing experience via exclusive content, live recordings and merchandise sales as well as discounts on parking and refreshments.
Concert Ticket + is predicated on selling tickets via iTunes to an NFC-enabled device like the iPhone--from there, the e-ticket allows for event entry by tapping the device against the venue turnstile. The Apple patent filing adds that Concert Ticket + could expand to events like movies, Broadway musicals, sports, travel and amusement parks, or even wedding invitations.
Apple originally filed the Concert Ticket + patent application in the third quarter of 2008. Patently Apple adds it represents Apple's fifth NFC-related patent since November 2009.
