Apple releases iOS 5 beta 6 to developers
Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) released the newest version of its iOS 5 beta to developers, its sixth since June. The update includes bug fixes and is stabler than previous iterations. In addition, iOS 5 beta 6 is available over-the-air.
Apple cautioned developers who choose to install the update OTA to first wipe their devices, in order to prevent potential compatibility issues. Developers who choose to install the update via iTunes do not need to wipe their devices before issuing the update.
Also new to this update is a disclaimer warning users that the beta versions of iOS 5 are meant for developers only.
"This version of iOS is intended only for installation on development devices registered with Apple's Developer Program. Attempting to install this version of iOS in an unauthorized manner could put your device in an unusable state, which could necessitate an out of warranty repair," it warns.
In addition to its update to iOS 5, Apple also issued updates to beta developer versions of XCode, iTunes and Apple TV.
Two weeks ago, Apple issued the fifth version of its iOS 5 beta. Apple has said it will release the finalized version of iOS 5 to users later this fall. The update to Apple's iOS operating system, which powers its iPhone and iPad, provides a range of new features including a new notification system and a new messaging system called iMessage.
