AT&T launches Mobage social gaming platform for Android
Mobile social gaming firm ngmoco will roll out its Mobage platform to Android device users via AT&T (NYSE:T). The deal heralds ngmoco's first Mobage partnership with a U.S. wireless operator. Terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
Mobage serves as a hub enabling subscribers to play and discover mobile games as well as connect and interact with other gamers across the globe, communicating via wall posts, direct messages and interest-based forums. AT&T customers can download the Mobage app from Google's (NASDAQ:GOOG) Android Market to access the full catalog of social titles. Developers seeking to add their games to the Mobage portfolio can access more information here.
Japanese social gaming giant DeNA acquired ngmoco for $400 million in late 2010. With the announcement of the deal, DeNA said it would integrate its Mobage software with ngmoco's own Plus+ social networking platform. Mobage now serves more than 30 million users in Japan with more than 1,000 game titles for smartphones, feature phones as well as PCs. Last month, Mobage launched in China.
AT&T announced a similar social gaming agreement with Zynga in late June. The carrier said it will offer popular titles like Words With Friends and Zynga Poker as well as customized content, adding it will work closely with Zynga to optimize gaming experiences for its subscribers.
