AT&T targets retailers with Digby Mobile Commerce platform

Tools

AT&T (NYSE:T) and mobile retail solutions provider Digby unveiled Digby Mobile Commerce from AT&T, a new solution promising the operator's retailer customers the tools to design, deploy and manage websites and smartphone applications incorporating sales mechanisms as well as product information, reviews and promotions.

According to AT&T, Digby Mobile Commerce delivers a user-friendly interface for consumers to search, browse and buy products across a series of mobile operating systems--retailers can integrate product data, photos and rich media, and automatically send exclusive promotions and new item information to app users when they enter connected stores. Digby Mobile Commerce also integrates with AT&T Mobile Barcode Services, enabling retailers to provide interactive shopping experiences when consumers scan product barcodes.

AT&T notes that Digby Mobile Commerce adheres to Payment Card Industry Level 1 certification and security standards-all personal data and credit card information remain confidential when using Digby Mobile Commerce-powered websites and applications. The solution also supplies retailers deep analytics on ROI benefits and consumer traffic.

Digby Mobile Commerce from AT&T heralds the operator's latest move into the exploding m-commerce sector. Late last year, AT&T partnered with three different mobile payment solutions providers--BilltoMobile, Boku and Zong--to enable subscribers the ability to charge online products and services like music, movies and virtual goods directly to their monthly wireless bill, entering their mobile phone number instead of their credit card or PayPal information. AT&T collects an unspecified percentage of profits derived from all purchases.

In addition, AT&T is teaming with Verizon Wireless (NYSE:VZ) and T-Mobile USA to launch Isis, a nationwide mobile commerce network enabling consumers to pay for retail goods and services, redeem coupons and accumulate loyalty program rewards by tapping a radio microchip-equipped smartphone at a corresponding retailer reader unit. Last week, Isis identified Salt Lake City as its first launch market, stating it will team with local merchants and business leaders to roll out a pilot program slated to go live in early-to-mid-2012.
