Band of the Day maker 955 Dreams closes $3.25M seed round
955 Dreams, the startup responsible for hit iOS applications including Band of the Day, closed a $3.25 million seed round led by accelerator program 500 Startups and venture firm m8 Capital. Kapor Capital, Felicis Ventures and CrunchFund also contributed.
Since launching in 2010, 955 Dreams has released three music-themed apps: Band of the Day, The History of Jazz and On the Way to Woodstock, all of which earned Apple's (NASDAQ:AAPL) prestigious App of the Week designation. Apple went on to name the freemium Band of the Day its iPhone App of the Year Runner-Up for 2011--FierceMobileContent also included the solution in its list of the Best Apps of September 2011. Band of the Day suggests new artists worth checking out, each selected by the 955 Dreams editorial team and presented complete with full-length songs, in-depth biographies and reviews, exclusive interviews and video footage. The app also touts social sharing options.
In conjunction with the funding announcement, 955 Dreams is introducing a version of Band of the Day optimized for Apple's iPad tablet, touting magazine-like layouts and new navigation tools. 955 Dreams said the financing also will support plans to extend to other mobile operating systems and roll out across new international markets.
