Barnes & Noble unveils Nook for Android
Bookseller chain Barnes & Noble introduced Nook for Android, expanding its ereader services to smartphones powered by Google's fast-growing mobile operating system. The free Nook for Android application (optimized for devices running Android OS 1.6 or higher) offers consumers access to more than 1 million ebooks, including new releases, bestsellers and free classics--consumers can read any title previously purchased on a Nook eBook Reader, online at BN.com or another BN eReader-enabled device, with library content syncing in seconds. Nook for Android also enables users to customize font style and size as well as shift between portrait and landscape mode--additional features include a navigation bar, graphical page turns and digital lending based on Barnes & Noble's LendMe technology, allowing customers to share eligible ebook titles for up to 14 days across devices including the iPhone, iPad and PCs enabled with BN eReader software.
In late April, Barnes & Noble announced the addition of Android-based games and a basic web browser to the Nook eBook Reader. The Android-powered device began shipping in February.
