BilltoMobile teams with Boku for Verizon mobile payments

Tools

Mobile payment solutions providers BilltoMobile and Boku have partnered to enable the latter's merchant partners and customers to bill digital goods purchases directly to their monthly Verizon Wireless (NYSE:VZ) bill. Per terms of the agreement, Boku will leverage the BilltoMobile Direct Mobile Billing payment platform, which connects directly into the Verizon Wireless billing system--Verizon subscribers can now employ Boku's transaction platform to securely buy virtual goods, content and services directly using their mobile handset by typing in their phone number and confirming the purchase via text message.

BilltoMobile first partnered with Verizon Wireless in March 2010. Its solution spans Verizon Wireless-approved content at online stores like social networks, gaming sites and virtual communities--consumers may also purchase game subscriptions. Boku now boasts partnerships with 230 carriers worldwide, reaching 2 billion consumers. Both firms promise merchants a more attractive fee system than traditional premium SMS rates.

Late last year, BilltoMobile and Boku--as well as rival Zong--entered a similar direct billing agreement with AT&T (NYSE:T), enabling the operator's subscribers to scoop up digital music, movies and related virtual products by entering their mobile phone number instead of their credit card or PayPal information.
