Bitstream launches Bolt 2.1 mobile browser

Tools

Software technologies and applications developer Bitstream announced the commercial release of its free Bolt 2.1 mobile browser, promising support for HTML5 video as well as new Flash video streaming websites including mtv.com, nick.com and bbc.co.uk. Available across a series of mobile device platforms, Bolt 2.1 also boasts tighter integration with Facebook, enabling users to leverage the social networking giant's instant messaging service--in addition, users can copy text or links and post them to Facebook directly from the browser. Also new in 2.1: Tabbed browsing, giving users the flexibility to simultaneously browse multiple websites and toggle between them; a faster widget gallery with updated UI; and a server upgrade to WebKit 4.03.

Bitstream reports that more than 7 million mobile subscribers have downloaded the Bolt browser since its Feb. 2009 introduction--more than 30,000 users are now installing the consumer version per day. The Bolt browser is also pre-installed across thousands of different handset models.
