First introduced in 2009, Bump was intended to be a quicker way for users to swap contact information without entering in names and numbers manually. Subsequent updates have made it possible for users to "bump" phones to share calendar information, app suggestions and song previews. Bump is also able to transfer information between phones running Android and iOS.
In celebration of its milestone, Bump issued new numbers about its user base. While the app is most popular in the U.S. and Europe, the company reports "bumping" in North Korea, Micronesia and other nations.
The most popularly shared games are Angry Birds Free, Doodle Jump, Cut the Rope, Fruit Ninja and Talking Tom Cat, respectively. In addition, 366 apps use the Bump API.
The most commonly shared content on Bump are photos, with 17 photos shared every second.
In January, Bump raised $16 million in Series B funding from Andreessen Horowitz and Sequoia Capital.
