Bytemobile: Video drives more than 40% of mobile data traffic

Tools

Mobile video content consumed between 40 percent and 60 percent of wireless network data traffic during the third quarter of 2011, according to new data issued by mobile web solutions provider Bytemobile. Subscriber demand for video remains the biggest demand facing network bandwidth allocation, Bytemobile adds, especially as consumers demand higher resolution content.

On a given day, 17 percent of total laptop subscribers consume video content, compared to 11 percent of all iPhone owners and 7 percent of all Android users, Bytemobile states. The average mobile subscriber consumes their total daily video content in a single session--users click through multiple videos before terminating their session, viewing 10 clips sequentially on average. Individuals consume twice as much video content in a single session during off-peak network hours as they would during peak hours, Bytemobile adds.

Bytemobile's network capacity solutions are deployed across more than 125 operators in 60 countries. Customers include AT&T (NYSE:T), Sprint Nextel (NYSE:S) and T-Mobile.
