CBS Mobile, Loopt team for location-based ads
CBS Mobile will announce a partnership with social-mapping and communication service Loopt to launch a location-based mobile advertising effort via the CBS Mobile News and CBS Mobile Sports sites. According to The New York Times, the opt-in service will deliver to participating consumers mobile ads tailored specifically to their current physical location, promoting stores and restaurants within a radius of a few blocks. At launch, the ads will be limited to subscribers with Sprint Nextel and Boost Mobile, both Loopt partners.
"The key is to add value," said CBS Mobile head Cyriac Roeding. "At the end of the day, if the consumer doesn't win in this game, there is no game." The New York Times reports CBS Mobile has not yet signed up advertisers, but expects that national brands will be the first to jump onboard. The CBS Mobile News and CBS Mobile Sports sites together welcomed five million unique visitors in the fourth quarter of 2007, Roeding said.
