China Mobile, News Corp. launching music service

Tools

After establishing a strategic partnership in June, Chinese operator China Mobile and U.S. media conglomerate News Corp. announced the first fruits of the relationship this weekend: A wireless music service that enables consumers to upload their own content for consumption via the mobile web. After downloading songs from the as-yet-unnamed service, China Mobile subscribers can vote for their favorites, and News Corp.'s Star TV division will produce music videos for the most popular tracks. Details of the deal are otherwise scarce--China Mobile and News Corp. did not divulge financial commitments or timetables.
