China Mobile opens online app store

China Mobile officially opened its online app store Mobile Market, offering consumers close to 6,500 mobile applications from more than 9,000 developers, according to 163.com. According to China Mobile--the world's largest mobile operator, with more than 400 million subscribers--developers who submit apps to Mobile Market will earn 70 percent of revenues, the same split offered by Apple's App Store and most other application storefronts. Previous reports indicated China Mobile would seek a 50 percent cut of all Mobile Market sales.

Mobile Market currently supports 10 handset models from manufacturers including Nokia, Samsung Electronics and LG Electronics--programmers may submit apps for multiple operating systems, with China Mobile hoping to rack up 100 million downloads by the end of 2010.
