Tools

Taiwanese operator Chunghwa Telecom announced it acquired a 21.1 percent stake in local digital content aggregator Elta Technology, in the process becoming the firm's largest shareholder. Elta Technology has provided digital film content for Chunghwa Telecom's Hinet website and Internet television services since 1998. "Digital content, both for third-generation [mobile phones] and multimedia on demand, is very important for us," said Chunghwa CFO Joseph Shieh in a prepared statement. Chunghwa Telecom previously stated it plans to sign an additional 1.4 million 3G subscribers by the end of 2007, up from the 1.13 million 3G users the operator reported in February.
