Circuit City, Napster team on download service
Big-box retailer Circuit City announced a partnership with digital music service provider Napster to launch a co-branded download service. Circuit City + Napster, scheduled to launch April 29, will offer consumers music discovery and community features including personalized recommendations, message board and playlist browsing and sharing--the service also promises exclusive content and weekly new release updates. All-you-can-eat service is $14.95 per month; Circuit City + Napster will also make available individual downloads at 99 cents each.
"Our goal with music and movies is to excite and inspire our customers to fully enjoy their portable and in-home electronics, and we're thrilled to enter this strategic relationship with Napster," said Circuit City senior VP and general merchandise manager for entertainment Irynne V. MacKay in a prepared statement. "Increasingly, consumers are turning to the digital environment for entertainment and this new service will give our customers easy access to the content they want, when and how they choose to enjoy it."
