Citi, Obopay team for mobile money transfers

Tools

Financial services provider Citi announced the launch of a new mobile person-to-person money transfer service developed in conjunction with mobile payments service provider Obopay. According to Citi, the service--launching Tuesday for all Citibank customers in the United States, with a focus on the Boston, Chicago, Maryland, Philadelphia and New Jersey markets--heralds the U.S.'s first real-time, person-to-person money transfer service linked directly to a bank account. Consumers taking part in the pilot program can send and receive money via the mobile web, SMS or downloadable mobile app, requiring no more information than the mobile phone numbers of friends and family members to complete transactions.
