Clearwire, ICO Global team for mobile video trial
Wireless broadband service provider Clearwire announced a joint agreement with satellite communications firm ICO Global Communications to collaborate on a mobile video trial expected to begin in early 2008 in the Raleigh, North Carolina market. According to Clearwire and ICO, the trial will focus on increasing the value and cost effectiveness of delivering advanced interactive mobile video services, and will seek to employ Clearwire's 2.5 GHz spectrum and ICO's 2.0 GHz spectrum more efficiently. ICO will integrate its Mobile Interactive Media service suite with Clearwire's broadband network to deliver multiple mobile video channels to large-screen user devices--Alcatel-Lucent will supply the system architecture and design based on the DVB-SH mobile multimedia open standard, and Hughes Network Systems will provide devices and GMR standard-based interactive elements.
"Mobile two-way video, advanced interactive navigation, plus emergency calling and messaging becomes an even more compelling value proposition when integrated with a wireless broadband network such as Clearwire's," said ICO CEO Tim Bryan in a prepared statement.
