Comcast expands Xfinity TV app to Android Market
Digital services giant Comcast launched a new version of its Xfinity TV app optimized for devices running Google's (NASDAQ:GOOG) Android mobile operating system, enabling digital cable subscribers to use their smartphone to change channels, program their DVRs, search and browse TV listings or On Demand content, and search by filters like genres, networks and titles. According to Comcast, forthcoming Android platform updates will enable the addition of new features and functionality including on-demand video streaming and live television streaming. The company adds that it is also planning to introduce new personalization features like shortcuts and recommendations, giving consumers the tools to create and manage watchlists as well as customize their TV listings.
In January, Comcast stated its forthcoming live streaming services for tablet devices will enable Xfinity TV subscribers to view broadcast content anywhere in their homes when connected to a wireless router. Comcast also said its Xfinity TV app for Apple's (NASDAQ:AAPL) iPad will incorporate a "Play Now" feature packed with close to 3,000 hours of on-demand content that subscribers can view anywhere and anytime, whether in the home or out, as long as the device is connected to a wireless network.
