Constant Contact expands mobile marketing toolkit with CardStar acquisition

Tools

Marketing services provider Constant Contact has acquired mobile marketing platform CardStar, which consolidates customer loyalty programs and club memberships into a single mobile application. Financial details of the deal were not disclosed.

The CardStar platform simplifies the customer experience, enabling consumers to use a single mobile application to collect and redeem merchant offers instead of multiple membership cards and coupons. At the same time, CardStar promises retailers tools to more effectively track and reward purchase behaviors. More than 2 million mobile subscribers use CardStar's free app across operating systems including Google's (NASDAQ:GOOG) Android and Apple's (NASDAQ:AAPL) iOS; Verizon Communications (NYSE:VZ) invested $400,000 in the startup in mid-2010.

Constant Contact supplies marketing advisory services to more than 450,000 small businesses and nonprofits worldwide, offering email marketing, social media marketing, event marketing and online survey services. Constant Contact will continue to operate the CardStar app--in addition, CardStar founder and CEO Andy Miller will join Constant Contact as director of mobile products.
