Copyright issues scrap Finnish DVB-H launch
The Finnish Broadcasting Company announced it will postpone its planned DVB-H mobile TV network launch because of disagreements over copyright issues as well as a dearth of compatible handsets. Finland's Ministry of Education is currently reviewing the demands of copyright organizations, which insist that separate copyright payments should be paid for mobile TV programming even if it is identical to content broadcast over traditional television channels. According to Helsingen Sanomat, networks including MTV3 and Nelonen are also postponing their own DVB-H launches until the copyright questions are resolved--Finnish operators including Elisa, DNA and TeliaSonera are reportedly at varying stages in their own respective mobile TV initiatives. - Jason
