DataViz shoots down Research In Motion acquisition reports
DataViz, developers of the popular Documents to Go productivity application, is denying previous reports the company was purchased by BlackBerry smartphone maker Research In Motion (NASDAQ:RIMM). Multiple sources reported the Rim/DataViz deal, reportedly valued at about $50 million--however, in an email to Brighthand, a DataViz spokesperson writes "It is not our practice to disclose details of our business relationships with our partners. That being said, while we did sell some of our assets to RIM, DataViz itself has not been acquired and is still very much in business."
Documents to Go enables users to remotely edit, create and view Word and Excel files via smartphones including BlackBerry, iOS, Android and Windows Mobile devices. DataViz recently scrapped plans for a long-in-the-works webOS version of the application last week, fueling speculation the firm would focus exclusively on its BlackBerry solution moving forward. DataViz denies the speculation: "We remain committed to many of the platforms that we supported previously including both iPhone and Android," the spokesperson states. "In fact, we will be releasing several new versions of Documents to Go in the coming weeks and you can expect to see other offerings from us in the future as well."
