David Ko named Yahoo Mobile head
Days after the resignation of Marco Boerries, executive vice president of Yahoo's Connected Life division, the web services giant named his replacement, appointing Yahoo Mobile SVP David Ko the mobile unit's new global head. According to Yahoo, Ko has been with the company for nine years, most recently leading its global mobile business operations. Ko previously served as managing director for Yahoo Mobile's Asia Pacific business, where he was charged with marketing, engineering, product development and nurturing the firm's regional partnerships and supervising the deployment and distribution of mobile-first services and advertising solutions. As worldwide head of Yahoo Mobile, Ko will now be responsible for the company's mobile business, strategy and monetization teams.
Ko's promotion is part of a large-scale management shakeup announced Thursday by Yahoo CEO Carol Bartz. The moves--which promise to streamline the corporate structure, make managers more accountable and accelerate decision making processes--tosses out a matrix organization that required many Yahoo employees and managers to report to multiple supervisors. "Today I'm rolling out a new management structure that I believe will make Yahoo a lot faster on its feet," Bartz writes on the Yahoo corporate blog. "For us working at Yahoo, it means everything gets simpler. We'll be able to make speedier decisions, the notorious silos are gone, and we have a renewed focus on the customer." In addition to Boerries, chief financial officer Blake Jorgenson will also exit the Yahoo ranks.
