Details on the .mobi roll out

According to the general manager of .mobi, members of the mobile community are now able to register their .mobi Web sites, which are streamlined for use on mobile devices. The period for trademark holders to register a .mobi site will begin on May 22 and last through late August. .mobi is a four-year-old industry group looking to create standards for the mobile Internet so that any site using the .mobi domain will work well on the operating systems of mobile devices. Web browsing is not the only problem the group seeks to solve in the next two years; there is also content rating, digital rights management, federated ID and communications protocols. .mobi thinks that only thin amounts of data, not rich data, is pertinent to the mobile domain.
