Deutsche Telekom readying iTunes rival
European communications giant Deutsche Telekom is reportedly planning to launch a digital media storefront to rival Apple's pacesetting iTunes. Citing sources close to the company, Financial Times Deutschland reports Deutsche Telekom will partner with fellow European operators to develop the service, which will build on DT's existing Mediaload, Videoload and Gamesload platforms to offer music, video and related content optimized for a host of phones and portable media devices. The storefront will also offer mobile applications.
Last month, Deutsche Telekom was one of more than 24 operators and manufacturers announcing their participation in the Wholesale Applications Community, a GSM Association-organized effort to simplify application development across multiple networks. Participants in the Wholesale Applications Community will work to harmonize various developer organizations to create a single point of entry for developers to create apps for operators everywhere.
