Dexetra adds ChaCha Q&A database to Iris personal assistant app

Tools

Personal search solutions provider Dexetra is adding real-time answers service ChaCha's extensive database to its Iris personal assistant app, promising users free responses to their spoken queries.

Iris offers natural language search tools optimized for devices running Google's (NASDAQ:GOOG) Android mobile operating system, touting more than a million downloads and responses to more than 30 million user queries. Users will now be directed to ChaCha's database, enabling Iris to answer conversational questions in real time.

The human-powered ChaCha service has answered nearly 2 billion questions from more than 25 million unique monthly users across the web, SMS, a 1-800 voice service and apps for Android and Apple's (NASDAQ:AAPL) iOS. In October 2010, ChaCha closed a $20 million financing round led by VantagePoint Venture Partners and Rho Ventures--three months later, the firm scored $3 million in additional funding, including contributions from Qualcomm Ventures, the investment arm of Qualcomm Incorporated (NASDAQ:QCOM).
