'Doodle Jump' finally makes the leap to Apple's iPad

Doodle Jump, one of the most successful iPhone games to emerge from Apple's (NASDAQ:AAPL) App Store, is finally expanding to the iPad tablet more than a year after developer Lima Sky first indicated plans to launch an iPad-optimized version of the title. In addition to graphics enhancements leveraging the full-screen iPad environment, the Doodle Jump upgrade--priced at $2.99--features a new multiplayer racetrack theme and OpenFeint social gaming integration.

Doodle Jump is now available for the iPad for $2.99.

Optimized for users aged four and up, Doodle Jump features the character Doodle the Doodler--players guide him on his journey up a sheet of graph paper via the device's tilt controls, acquiring jet packs, avoiding black holes and fending off enemies while jumping from platform to platform. The original iPhone version, introduced in April 2009, eclipsed the 10 million download milestone in March 2011.

Lima Sky co-founders Igor and Marko Pusenjak confirmed plans to introduce an iPad version of Doodle Jump during a New York Times interview published in June 2010. "We were originally going to launch a replica version of Doodle Jump for the iPad, but we've decided to build an entirely new game with new features and game play," Igor Pusenjak said at that time. "We recognize how dedicated our fans are to the game so we want to make sure we build the right experience for them."
