'Doodle Jump' tops 5 million App Store downloads
Youth-focused development studio Lima Sky announced its Doodle Jump game has now sold more than 5 million copies via Apple's App Store--in March, the title surpassed the 3 million-download benchmark. Lima Sky co-founders Igor and Marko Pusenjak told The New York Times they believe the 99-cent Doodle Jump is the first iPhone application to rack up 5 million downloads. Optimized for users aged four and up, Doodle Jump features the character Doodle the Doodler--players guide him on his journey up a sheet of graph player via the iPhone's tilt controls, acquiring jet packs, avoiding black holes and fending off enemies while jumping from platform to platform.
Lima Sky confirmed it is at work on a new version of Doodle Jump customized for Apple's iPad tablet. "We were originally going to launch a replica version of Doodle Jump for the iPad, but we've decided to build an entirely new game with new features and game play," Igor Pusenjak said. "We recognize how dedicated our fans are to the game so we want to make sure we build the right experience for them."
