dotMobi RFP process determines what's in a name

Tools

dotMobi, the official worldwide registry for the new .mobi domain, this week began the first round of its RFP process for four potentially lucrative mobile Internet domain names: "news.mobi," "ringtones.mobi," "sports.mobi" and "weather.mobi." After evaluating all submitted proposals on the applicant's business and technical capabilities (with an emphasis on proposed content for the website as it relates to the particular domain name), dotMobi plans to announce the winning proposals in January 2007, with the winning sites expected to go live a month later. Applications are due no later than Dec. 18, 2006.

More than 240,000 .mobi domains have registered since dotMobi began general registration in October 2006. The registry will continue parceling out premium names in groups through 2008, employing both RFP and auction processes.
