Droid already yields a quarter of AdMob's Android ad requests
Worldwide ad requests from Android smartphones increased 5.8 times between April and October according to mobile advertising network AdMob's monthly Mobile Metrics Report. Android now accounts for 20 percent of all AdMob U.S. smartphone traffic, up from 7 percent six months ago. Motorola's highly-touted Droid, introduced two weeks ago by Verizon Wireless, already accounts for 24 percent of all Android ad requests on the AdMob network; the report adds that the HTC G1, the first Android-powered device, continues to experience strong ad request growth over the last six months, and the recent spate of new Android phones is driving significant incremental traffic growth as well.
New BlackBerry devices are also generating a growing percentage of AdMob requests, led by Research In Motion's new Tour as well as the Curve 8900 and 8520. At the same time, the aging BlackBerry 8100 Pearl series dropped from 28 percent of RIM ad traffic in April to 16 percent in October--however, AdMob notes that the 8300 Curve series has maintained approximately 44 percent share over the last six months.
