EA, Hasbro ink multi-platform licensing deal

Tools

Videogame publisher Electronic Arts and toymaker Hasbro announced a multi-platform strategic licensing agreement to develop electronic versions of "Monopoly," "Scrabble" and other Hasbro board games and toys. Per terms of the deal, which extends through 2013, EA boasts exclusive worldwide rights to create digital Hasbro titles across platforms including mobile, online, handheld, PC and consoles, with the first games scheduled to arrive next year.

The agreement signals the latest step in EA's aggressive efforts to capture a bigger share of the casual games market. "The gaming market has never been more primed for a revolution in how families enjoy games," said Kathy Vrabeck, EA Casual Entertainment label president. "Hasbro is the ideal partner to help propel this change. Their games define fun. These are games that we all love and remember from our childhoods."
