eBay credits $400 million in sales to iPhone users
eBay users shopping and bidding via iPhone have generated more than $400 million in sales for the online marketplace since its iPhone and iPod touch application first launched in mid-2008. Speaking at the annual Shop.org conference in Las Vegas, eBay president and CEO John Donahoe said that last week alone, a consumer purchased a $350,000 Lamborghini from their iPhone, and another doled out $150,000 for a boat.
Donahoe speculates that the mobile platform will account for roughly 40 percent of all Internet access within the next few years. "Mobile devices will play a role and the notion of mobility will have a huge impact on ecommerce," he said.
eBay launched the latest version if its eBay Mobile app for iPhone in mid-August--in addition to searching and bidding services, the free app boasts new features including integrated PayPal support, push notifications for outbid events and watched items, detailed seller feedback and completed items search.
