Eidos Interactive acquires Rockpool Games
Entertainment software developer Eidos Interactive announced its acquisition of mobile gaming and content developer Rockpool Games as well as two sister firms: intellectual property licensing company Ironstone Partners and casual gaming publisher SoGoPlay. Eidos will pony up an initial £1.2 million for Rockpool, although the figure could rise to as much as £7.7 million by 2010 dependent on financial performance. Per additional terms of the deal, Eidos will acquire Rockpool's Manchester, England studios as well as 36 staffers; Rockpool, Ironstone and SoGoPlay will all join Eidos' New Media division.
"This acquisition is a tremendously exciting prospect for Eidos," said the firm's New Media and IT director Simon Protheroe in a prepared statement. "Rockpool brings us a rich pool of talent along with a proven ability to deliver high-quality projects. In addition to their continued work on external projects, we look forward to bringing their experience and creativity to bear on some of our own titles over the coming months."
