Ericsson teams with Akamai to accelerate mobile cloud services

BARCELONA, Spain--Ericsson is forging an exclusive strategic alliance with cloud solutions provider Akamai Technologies in an effort to upgrade consumer access to services including mobile e-commerce, web content and enterprise applications. Per terms of their partnership, Ericsson and Akamai will jointly develop end-to-end solutions to simplify how content and applications are delivered to mobile devices, promising new business opportunities for both operators and media providers.

While specifics on the alliance are scarce, Ericsson and Akamai said they will develop a truly integrated mobile web ecosystem, giving operators greater involvement in the Internet value chain and enabling them to more effectively monetize their network assets and subscriber base. The deal heralds the first time Akamai's global delivery network will integrate with mobile networks in this manner, the firms added.
