Ericsson, Turner team for mobile multimedia

Tools

Vendor giant Ericsson announced a partnership with Turner Broadcasting System to develop the network's broadcast news, entertainment and Internet content for mobile multimedia platforms. The first service, CNN Mobile, will premiere at next week's 3GSM World Congress trade event in Barcelona and initially roll out in the European, Middle Eastern and African markets--according to Ericsson and Turner, the off-deck portal will include breaking news alerts and hourly video updates as well as a searchable archive spanning the previous 14 days and more than 2000 stories. Subsequent services will spotlight Turner's Cartoon Network/Adult Swim properties.

"With this deal, we will have for the first time a full portfolio of solutions--from SMS through to mobile television--that will scale and easily move across the world," Turner Broadcasting senior VP of digital media Casey Harwood said in a prepared statement. "This partnership is a logical fit where the customer and mobile operators benefit through Turner focusing on providing innovative news and entertainment content to its global audience and Ericsson providing the technology behind it."
