ESPN Radio tunes in to the App Store
Sports media giant ESPN announced the launch of its latest premium iPhone application, this one
spotlighting its radio and podcasting efforts. The $2.99 ESPN Radio app includes live audio access to national programs including Mike & Mike in the Morning, The Herd with Colin Cowherd and The Scott Van Pelt Show, as well as live streams from more than a dozen stations including ESPN 1050 New York, ESPN 1250 Pittsburgh, ESPN 1000 Chicago, ESPN 103.3 Dallas and ESPN 710 Los Angeles. The app also boasts more than 35 ESPN podcasts like The BS Report with Bill Simmons, Pardon the Interruption, Around the Horn and Fantasy Focus. In addition, ESPN Radio offers live play-by-play, SportsCenter headlines and scoring updates--users may also send text messages directly to the studio of their favorite broadcast.
According to ESPN, ESPNRadio.com reaches more than 420,000 unique listeners per month and is the largest, most listened to talk format stream both terrestrially and via Internet-only streaming, generating 1.9 million total sessions per month (a 25 percent year-over-year increase). The average session in ESPNRadio.com's audio stream lasts 2.5 hours.
