Facebook app for iPhone adds 'unfriend' feature
Facebook issued version 3.4 of its application for Apple's (NASDAQ:AAPL) iPhone, introducing new features including a tool to "unfriend" social networking contacts on the go.
Also new: Facebook Event check-ins, Google Maps-based views of friends' Places whereabouts, an improved News Feed and an upgraded notifications UI.
Speaking to TechCrunch, Facebook did not specify when it plans to roll out the enhancements to other smartphone platforms.
More than half of all Americans over the age of 12 are now on Facebook, according to a new report conducted by Arbitron, Inc. and Edison Research. As of January 2011, 51 percent of Americans maintain Facebook profiles, up from just 8 percent only three years ago.
With its active monthly mobile web userbase now topping the 250 million milestone, Facebook last week introduced a new mobile website promising to optimize the social networking experience regardless of device model.
Facebook said it will upgrade the m.facebook.com site to offer the same features across both smartphones and feature phones.
