Facebook issues SDK for Android
Social networking giant Facebook announced the release of a software development kit optimized for Google's Android mobile operating system, promising open-sourcing tools and sample code enabling developers to integrate social media features into their Android applications. The SDK--available for download here--includes resources to integrate strong authentication using OAuth 2.0, requests to Facebook's new Graph API and story publication back to Facebook via Feed forms. "The library is very simple," writes Facebook Mobile Platform engineering intern Steven Soneff (who built the SDK for his internship project) on the Facebook Developer Blog. "With only a few lines of Java, your application can become social."
Facebook reports that more than 100 million users per month now access its services via mobile phones. Earlier this month, the company launched 0.facebook.com, a stripped-down mobile site that targets subscribers in emerging markets by promising a user experience optimized for improved speed and efficiency.
