Facebook for Mobile Operators debuts on Vodafone

Tools

Social networking giant Facebook announced Facebook for Mobile Operators, a new platform promising more seamless integration between wireless handsets and Facebook applications. According to InfoWorld, the platform offers operators a set of technical specifications simplifying recurring snafus that hamper the mobile Facebook experience. Carriers will be given instructions to add system settings enabling improved MMS services, complete with confirmation safeguards to block spamming and related site abuse. Vodafone is the first carrier to implement Facebook for Mobile Operators and has already launched services in the U.K. and Germany, with rollouts scheduled for its Greece, Italy, Spain, Ireland, and Portugal subsidiaries. While financial terms of the Vodafone agreement were not announced, Facebook's director of mobile Jed Stremel said operators will be able to generate data revenues as their subscribers access the service.
