Fiksu: iPhone 5 launch fuels 33% jump in App Store downloads
Daily downloads from Apple's (NASDAQ:AAPL) App Store increased 33 percent from September to October, a surge credited to the Sept. 21 introduction of the iPhone 5, according to analytics from Fiksu.
The Fiksu App Store Competitive Index, which tracks the average aggregate daily download volume of the top 200 free U.S. iPhone apps, reveals that App Store downloads averaged 5.04 million per day in October, up from 4.07 million the previous month. The increase is consistent with App Store activity recorded during the last week of September: Fiksu previously reported that installs declined 3 percent in the three weeks leading up to the iPhone 5's retail rollout but grew by one-third during the remaining days of the month.

Fiksu adds that App Store downloads increased by a proportional 29 percent in the weeks immediately following the October 2011 debut of the iPhone 4S.
Fiksu's Cost per Loyal User Index, which measures the cost of acquiring a loyal user for brands who proactively market their apps, dropped 6 percent from $1.13 in September to $1.06 in October. The firm states the arrival of the iPhone 5 and corresponding consumer enthusiasm for new applications translated to sharp increases in organic searches and app discovery. "Some savvy marketers chose to ride this wave without substantially increasing their advertising spending," Fiksu CEO Micah Adler said.
