Firefox mobile browser 'days away' from launch
Open-source software developer Mozilla says its much-anticipated Firefox mobile browser--a.k.a. "Fennec"--is "days away" from release. Mozilla vice president of mobile Jay Sullivan tells BBC News the browser is presently in its final stages of testing and could be available for download prior to the end of 2009. Firefox for mobile will be able synchronize with its desktop counterpart, Sullivan adds: "At the end of the working day you can walk away from your computer and keep on going on your phone. It encrypts all of the information and sends it back through the cloud between your desktop and mobile."
Mozilla is working on browser editions optimized for Android, Symbian and Widnows Mobile, but Sullivan admits an iPhone version is unlikely, at least in the near future. "Apple is very restrictive," he explains. "As it's a pretty closed platform we don't see that happening soon."
