FLO TV to air live Preakness, Stanley Cup playoffs

Qualcomm's FLO TV mobile broadcast subsidiary and NBC Universal announced the NBC2GO channel will ramp up its summer schedule with a slate of live sporting events spanning horse racing to hockey. On Saturday, NBC2GO will air live coverage of the Preakness, the second leg in horse racing's Triple Crown, followed May 30 by French Open tennis action. On June 6, the channel will inaugurate coverage of the NHL's Stanley Cup championship series--golf's U.S. Open follows from June 18 through 21, and from June 27 to July 5, NBC2GO will spotlight Wimbledon, the tennis world's premier event.

Live sports have consistently proven a ratings bonanza for the mobile TV platform. According to FLO TV, the first day of this year's NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Championship tournament generated a 48 percent increase in the average minutes per user over the previous month. In addition, FLO TV enjoyed viewership increases of more than 80 percent during the now-legendary 2008 U.S. Open golf championship, which pitted Tiger Woods against Rocco Mediate.
