Flurry introduces AppCircle recommendation engine

Mobile application analytics provider Flurry introduced AppCircle, a cross-selling network promising developers a new channel to promote and monetize their software. Launched in beta in late 2009, AppCircle leverages an intelligent recommendation engine in tandem with Flurry analytics data to select and serve targeted applications based on aggregated usage--the self-service solution encompasses roughly 45,000 apps spanning the iPhone, Android, BlackBerry and J2ME platforms, offering integration options including links to menu pages, settings pages and banner impressions. Developers may also use their own virtual currency to incentivize downloads.

Flurry notes AppCircle is optimized for developers looking to acquire users (promoters) as well as developers seeking to earn incremental revenue from their applications (publishers)--developers who choose the latter route earn 60 percent of the price promoters pay for each app download. Promoters set bids on how much they are willing to pay for a new user; Flurry's recommendation engine will match relevant promoter apps to display in publisher apps, with a bidding process employed to rank the order in which impressions are shown. Developers who act as both publishers and promoters receive a 25 percent credit for every dollar they earn as a publisher--credits are reinvested into promoting their apps.
