Flurry launches Privacy First Initiative for data analytics
Mobile application analytics provider Flurry announced the introduction of its Privacy First Initiative, an effort to improve consumer privacy standards in mobile application data collection and targeting. According to Flurry, PFI boasts a set of product features and usage guidelines to be included in Flurry Analytics and AppCircle services, offering consumers visibility into collected data and control over how their information is leveraged for campaign targeting and product recommendations. PFI requirements include 'Terms of Service' language, an opt-out switch and data deletion button which both must be included in each application's settings, a clear data retention policy and geographic data obfuscation guaranteeing devices are not placed more precisely than their metropolitan area.
Flurry notes PFI features will be added to its iPhone OS versions of Analytics and AppCircle this summer. The firm adds that more than 28,000 companies have now integrated Flurry Analytics and AppCircle into more than 40,000 applications across the iPhone, Android, BlackBerry and J2ME platforms.
