Fox Mobile Group rebrands as Jesta Digital, names new CEO
Less than a month after acquiring News Corp.'s Fox Mobile Group division for an undisclosed amount, entertainment provider Jesta Group said it will rename the unit Jesta Digital. Featuring consumer brands like Jamster, Jamba, Mobizzo and iLove along with the Bitbop on-demand mobile video service, Jesta Digital will move forward under the auspices of new CEO Jason Aintabi, with FMG COO Mark Anderson remaining in the same role.
News Corp. confirmed reports it would sell Fox Mobile Group in mid-2010 after taking a $217 million charge on its mobile and outdoor businesses during the company's fiscal fourth quarter. FMG/Jesta Digital is one of series of Newa Corp. digital media properties divested in recent months, alongside Photobucket and Rotten Tomatoes. Earlier this week, News Corp.-owned social networking site MySpace cut 47 percent of its staff, fueling rumors that a sale is imminent.
Bitbop went live in mid-2010, promising smartphone users in the U.S. full-length episodes of popular NBC, Fox, CBS and FX series like like Glee, Justified, Friday Night Lights and The Office. Priced at $9.99 per month, the Hulu-like Bitbop offers both unlimited streaming and temporary downloads, delivered in high-quality video resolution and supported across both 3G and WiFi networks.
