GetJar surpasses 1 billion application downloads
Cross-platform applications storefront GetJar surpassed the 1 billion app download milestone on June 7, less than a year after the store reached the 500,000 download benchmark. According to GetJar, the billionth download is Geodelic, a location-based restaurant and retailer app optimized for the Android platform. The all-time GetJar download leader remains Facebook's mobile site shortcut, downloaded 61 million times since its introduction late last year--other signature apps include mobile messenger solution eBuddy (downloaded more than 50 million times), social networking apps Nimbuzz, mig33 and Cnected, and mobile browser Opera Mini.
In all, GetJar now offers more than 65,000 applications spanning operating systems including Android, BlackBerry, Windows Mobile and Symbian. The store serves smartphone and feature phone users in over 200 countries.
