'Ghostwire' wins Nokia's Mobile Games Innovation Challenge
Ghostwire, developed by Swedish firm A Different Game, was announced as the winner of Nokia's Mobile Games Innovation Challenge. Ghostwire--a casual collection and adventure game where players communicate with the supernatural world and use their phone's camera to discover ghosts--was awarded the top prize of €40,000 (about $52,000 U.S.), while Melokey, jointly created by Sweden's Jadestone and France's C4M, came in second place to win €20,000 (or $26,000 U.S.) The U.K.'s Eclipse Interactive claimed third place and €10,000 ($13,000 U.S.) via Watchers. In addition to the prize money, all three winners will receive pre-production contracts with Nokia Games Publishing.
Nokia announced the 10 finalists for the Mobile Games Innovation Challenge earlier this month. According to the handset giant, an independent panel of worldwide industry experts whittled down more than a hundred entries to arrive at the final shortlist, judging games for N-Gage-compatible devices and Java- or Symbian-based Series 40 or S60 devices according to innovation, fun, feasibility of execution and market potential.
