Glu Mobile bids $36 million for Superscape
Glu Mobile announced a $36 million tender offer to acquire fellow mobile gaming firm Superscape Group, a move Glu said will expand its U.S. presence and bolster its development and publishing efforts. The Glu offer has been unanimously recommended by Superscape's board of directors. Shareholders now have 21 days to accept the bid. Superscape, headquartered in San Clemente, Calif., with a production facility in Moscow, boasts a white-label partnership with Verizon Wireless and operates a mobile gaming community via Alltel--original titles include Gum Blox, Capone Casino, Sudoku and Paintball Challenge, while licensed properties feature Alien versus Predator, Fox Motocross and AMF Extreme Bowling.
"This offer represents an important step in Glu's strategy to become the number one mobile games publisher in the world," said Glu president and CEO Greg Ballard in a prepared statement. "Superscape's strong market position in the United States, heritage in 3D technology, and unique position as a leading white label publisher are a perfect complement to Glu's world-class global presence."
