Google adds Search History to mobile queries
Google added a new Search History feature enabling desktop, Android and iPhone users a virtual trail back to sites visited and starred during previous queries. The new History link at the bottom of the Google homepage offers access to all searches executed while the user is signed-in, regardless of whether the search was conducted on a PC or smartphone--mobile searches are distinguished by a small phone icon, while sites visited via desktop or laptop include screenshot thumbnails to simplify user recognition. History items can be removed from the search string using the Edit button at the top of the page--users may also disable Search History altogether by selecting the "Do not save searches" option under Settings.
Mobile searches across Google's Android operating system increased 300 percent over the first six months of 2010, with the digital services giant adding that its mobile traffic has grown 500 percent over the last two years. "When the web is better, more people use it more often. And that means they search more often," said Google senior vice president of product management Jonathan Rosenberg during the company's second quarter earnings call in mid-July. "Android is a leading example of this." According to Rosenberg, the web browser is the most popular application on the Android platform. "What do [users] do there?" he said. "They search more than they ever have."
