Google debuts pre-roll ads on YouTube 2.0 for Android
Google (NASDAQ:GOOG) is introducing pre-roll advertisements to its YouTube 2.0 video application for Android, a move that YouTube mobile product manager Andrey Doronichev calls "our largest step in mobile monetization to date." According to Doronichev, the new pre-roll adds will appear across tens of thousands of YouTube clips, expanding distribution and revenue opportunities for publishers looking to extend their video content to the mobile platform. "Our next step is to let partners run ads more broadly across other mobile platforms, beyond Android native apps," Doronichev adds.
In related news, music video website Vevo launched on YouTube 2.0 for Android on Wednesday--YouTube also introduced related music discovery features like artist bios, artist tracks and related artists tabs. YouTube now tops 200 million mobile views each day, up from 100 million in mid-2010.
