Google readies spectrum auction bid

Tools

Google is making "the necessary preparations" to bid in the FCC's upcoming wireless spectrum auction, a company representative told the Wall Street Journal. According to the WSJ, Google will enter January's 700MHz band auction on its own, sans partners--in July, the search giant said it would commit at least $4.6 billion to the spectrum bidding, assuming the FCC instituted certain open access conditions. Bidders must declare their intention to participate in the auction by Dec. 3.
